Euromed Cinemas supports 18 releases of MEDA and European films

Out of the 19 applications examined by the Committee, support was given to18 releases as follows:
7 releases of MEDA films to be exhibited in the European Union
6 releases of MEDA films to be screened in the MEDA region
5 releases of European films to be showcased in the MEDA region
The supported MEDA films to be screened in the EU (Germany, Spain, France, the UK and Italy) are:
Le Chaos by Youssef Chahine & Khaled Youssef (EG); Foul Gesture by Tzahi Grad (IL); The Band’s Visit by Eran Kolirin (IL); Yumurta by Semih Kaplanoglu (TR); Petits Heros by Itai Lev (IL); and Under the Bombs by Philippe Aractingi (LB/FR/GB) which will be exhibited in two countries.
Support for the screening of MEDA films in MEDA countries (Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Algeria) goes to: Caramel by Nadine Labaki (LB/FR) to be exhibited in two countries; Morgan Ahmed Morgan by Ali Idriss (EG); El Shabah “Le Fantome” by Amrou Aarafa /EG); WWW.What a Wonderful World by Faouzi Bensaidi (MA/FR/DE); and Junun by Fadhel Jaibi (TN/MA).
Finally, support for the exhibition of European films in MEDA countries (Israel, Egypt and Turkey) goes to:
Le Scaphandre et le papillonby Julian Schnabel (FR); De l’autre coté by Fatih Akin (DE/TR); La vie en rose (La Môme) by Olivier Dahan (FR); and Azur et Asmar by Michel Ocelot & Ian McIntyre (FR/IT).
The next Euromed Cinemas Expert Committee is due to be held in mid-March 2008.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 18 February 2008 at the latest, for releases planned between 25 March and 25 May 2008.
